Self Study Program 515 – The Golf 2013 Running Gear and Four-wheel Drive Concept

VAG SSP 515. The main objective behind the development of the running gear for the Golf 2013 was to increase the driving dynamics and driving comfort at the same time as optimising the weight and reducing the costs. The reduction in the weight of the components makes a considerable contribution to decreasing the vehicle’s fuel consumption and the associated COemissions.

The weight of the running gear with its four-link axle has been reduced by up to 11 kg compared to the previous model with a four-link axle; this is the result of a variety of optimisations to individual  components, the use of high-strength materials (e.g. for the transverse link) as well as the use  of components with a bionic design (e.g. the swivel bearing).
