VAG SSP 40. The 4-speed automatic gearbox 001 which is presented in this booklet, is a contribution to enhancing comfort in the vehicle and relieving the strain of the driver. Automatic gearboxes are increasingly becoming an everyday element of enhanced comfort in vehicles.
Modern functional details in terms of production, hydraulics and electronics make reliable “automatic” driving possible in a car fitted with an automatic gearbox. An automatic gearbox takes over the task of engaging the clutch when starting off, selecting the right gear ratios and shifting gears on its own. Various shift programmes ensure that the engine is always operating in the range which offers the best fuel consumption.
The driver is no longer required to provide the physical effort needed for engaging and disengaging the clutch and shifting gears. This avoids stress and enhances road safety.
