Self Study Program 514 – The New EA288 Diesel Engine Family

VAG SSP 514. In this self-study programme you can find out about the structure and design of the new EA288 engine generation and the functionality of the individual subsystems of the engine.

A new family of diesel engines is being introduced by Volkswagen, with the first being launched in the Golf 2013. The engine family has the designation EA288 (EA = Entwicklungsauftrag (development order)).

The new generation of engines was – with regard to the dimension for the cylinder spacing and the stroke/bore ratio – developed on the basis of the existing EA189 engine family, and will form the basis for all future inline diesel engines at Volkswagen.

Numerous sub-assemblies have already been overhauled and redeveloped for the new 4-cylinder diesel engines in the EA288 engine family to make sure they will satisfy all future emission standards.
