Volvo S40 Replacement Interval Guide

REPLACEMENT INTERVAL GUIDE. Volvo recommends replacement as follows: S60/V70/XC70 2003 c with B5244S6 engine, replacement of timing belt and tensioner pulley every 150,000 miles or 15 years, whichever occurs first. S60/V70/XC70 2003 c with B5254T2 engine and V50/XC90, replacement of timing belt and tensioner pulley every 120,000 miles or 10 years, whichever occurs first.

All other years, models and engines, replacement of timing belt and tensioner pulley every 105,000 miles or 10 years, whichever occurs first. The previous use and service history of the vehicle must always be taken into account.

CHECK FOR ENGINE DAMAGE

CAUTION: This engine has been identified as an INTERFERENCE engine in which the possibility of valve-to-piston damage in the event of a timing belt failure is MOST LIKELY to occur.
A compression check of all cylinders should be performed before removing the cylinder head.
