THM 700-R4 (4L60) 1987-1993 – ATSG (Automatic Transmission Service Group)

This Repair Manual contains general description and procedures necessary to repair, overhaul, or service the 1987-1993 THM 700-R4 transmission and includes all design levels.

This transmission is a fully automatic unit consisting of a 3 element torque converter with the addition of aconverter clutch. Five multiple disc clutch packs, one roller clutch, one sprag and one band provide the friction elements required to obtain the desired function of the planetary gear set. The combination of these elements provides four forward speeds with 4th gear being overdrive, and reverse. Changing of the gear ratios is fully automatic in relation to vehicle speed and engine torque. Vehicle speed and engine torque signals are fed to the transmission to provide the proper gear ratio for maximum efficiency and performance at all throttle openings.
