Self Study Program 579 – The Touareg 2019 Driver Assist Systems

Self Study Program 579 – The Touareg 2019 Driver Assist Systems PDF. Today, numerous driver assist systems are available for almost all vehicles. In critical situations, they ensure stability, automatically maintain the distance from the vehicle in front and support the driver during parking manoeuvres. In order to monitor the vehicle environment in all directions, the driver assist systems require data and information that they receive from numerous sensors (ultrasound, radar or cameras). The performance of the sensors and the data processing in the control units are constantly improving. Radar sensors in the front and rear areas of the vehicle can recognise other vehicles and obstacles. Cameras are used to recognise lane markings, traffic signs, traffic lights and other road users. Ultrasonic sensors have been fitted in vehicles since the early nineties as parking aids. Their functional scope has expanded considerably since then. For instance, parking spaces are measured and recognised as you drive. Radar, cameras and ultrasonic sensors have been used for separate individual functions in the past. Now all relevant data can be linked intelligently with the aid of sensor fusion. This is the key to making automated driving possible. Particular attention is paid to functional safety. The signals from the vehicle sensors are compared with each other. The steering and engine will only be operated if the data are consistent. Volkswagen has set the aim of making accident-free driving possible by building vehicles with predictive systems.
