VAG SSP 413. Driver assist systems are increasingly gaining a foothold in the world of the automobile. In this sector a multitude of innovations have found their way into motor vehicles in recent years. Even since the launch of the Audi Q7, the product line-up has been significantly diversified to include the Audi Lane Change Assist, Audi Lane Assist and Rear View systems.
Driver assist systems also include the Park Assist system, which is a familiar feature on Audi models. The evolutionary process began with the rear Park Assist system, which led to the front-rear Park Assist system and the Optical Parking System with graphic display of individual distance values on the MMI terminal, culminating in the Audi parking system advanced with rear-view camera.
The rear-view camera provides the driver with a completely distortion-free, colour image of vehicles and objects behind the parking vehicle. The guidance lines projected onto the image make reverse parking very simple for drivers.
However, if you are thinking that this is the ultimate in parking assistance, then you are mistaken! The Parallel Park Assist system supplied with the Audi A3 does all the steering for the driver during a reverse parking manoeuvre. In this way, the vehicle manoeuvres itself directly into the parking space.
