Self Study Program 39 – Euro On-Board Diagnosis (EOBD)

VAG SSP 39. You can acquaint yourself with the fundamentals and the components of the system in this Self Study Programme. In the USA On-Board Diagnosis is already a fixed element of the range of measures aimed at reducing and monitoring exhaust emissions. This diagnosis system was also introduced in the European Union (EU) at beginning of the year 2000; other European countries have also decided to adopt these rules.

The diagnosis system, known as Euro On-Board Diagnosis (EOBD) has been harmonised to European emission legislation. The first step of this introduction initially covers petrol engines; it will be extended in the foreseeable future to also include diesel engines.

The European version of the diagnosis system differs only slightly from the American OBD II system. The EOBD is likewise characterised by the central diagnostic interface and the exhaust warning light. On-Board Diagnosis represents an inestimable contribution aimed at protecting and maintaining our atmosphere.
